Excellent gym, good range of equipment and never busy in the times I’ve been there. Squash courts however are not too well maintained; cracked floorboards and front wall. Some staff friendlier than others.

Update 2022:. It's an all new management with new staff and a couple of familiar faces from the old days. Key changes are: 1. centre is no longer contactable over phone or internet. Phone HQ CS for general info. 2. They no longer have the excellent tariff Better Racquets which used to be £34 a month entitling one racket sport booking each day inclusive. Reason management gave is that they want to avoid customers taking that tariff and then still use the gym which isn't inclusive. Effectively treating us like potential criminals. I used to enjoy that tariff four times a week but now I will settle for joining a squash or badminton club and no longer use Flaxman. UPDATE March 2020: The female receptionist I mentioned in my original review below still treats me and other squash players with disdain...except for those of her own particular skin colour, she gets chatty with. This is just an observation from some of us. Other staff members are great though. In fact, during this Coronavirus outbreak, the other staff members are making extra effort to raise out spirits.

We are group of friends and have been coming to the Flaxman centre for about 4years. Every week we book 3squash courts as it’s our Social night with squash so we pay 36£ weekly there, which is absolutely fine, we know it’s not a fancy gym. The team working there is absolutely amazing except, there is a guy Kevin. Who is absolutely unprofessional and literally being rude to us. We were very nice to him, but he never says hello to us. The moment you arrive you’re greeted with a very cold attitude and it takes away the joy of our evening. It has got to the point that even if Flaxman is the most convenient for our group in terms of the location, we are now looking to move our squash games to a different centre. So thanks Kevin hopefully you will finally be happy! I had to write it here as I feel like it’s a shame and putting all the hard work of the staff members in bad light for one rotten apple. I run business myself and happy customer communication is a must! I would never let anyone like that to be the person people meet when they walk in.

Love this gym. I go all the time but hey wouldn’t we all want to go more haha. All the staff are very nice and helpful. Some comments I read on here about cold attitude and stuff like that. I like that, they get on with your business so you can too. But are always helpful and they fist bump you to say hello if you’re in there. Sometimes they say to me it’s been a long time since I’ve been in and so that’s good motivation! The gym is usually very quiet and frequented by absolutely enormous men but they are friendly and helpful. I rarely if ever am waiting around and people are happy to work into each others’ sets. I think a lot of people judge books by covers especially in a gym. You can see a lot of the guys have spent time in there by their impressive physiques and build friendships through the gym and that’s nice. Great kit including a new hack squat machine, which the manager Kevin was keen to get in as he knows not many gyms have one. 2 squash courts too. I use it mainly for squash and gym but have played badminton too. I love this place so thanks to all the staff in the flaxman sports centre !

The walkway to the squash courts needs sorting out/repaired. The squash courts needs total refurbishment. The floor and front wall are uneven.

For all those complaining about the gym. Please do go elsewhere. Theres not really much to complain about with Flaxman. This is a very good value for gym in south east London. Got very good equipment and the price is still reasonable. You want to play squash or badminton paying cheap prices but want David Lloyd facilities. Come on. Go spend more rupees and youll get better facilities.
