Tried to play squash but was refused entry because the staff insisted that “black sole shoes” are not allowed on their newly refurbished courts. We explained that these were standard non-marking indoor squash shoes, commonly used on squash courts, with only a small black section on the sole. Despite this, access was still refused. The lady clearly hasn’t got a clue about “black sole” shoes vs. “non-marking” shoes but was quite confident she knows it. Many professional indoor court shoes have dark or partially black soles while still being fully non-marking. There’s little point investing in new facilities if staff and especially the ‘manager’ are not properly trained on the basic difference between outdoor footwear and approved indoor court shoes.
